The book is not dated, but the original owner has dated the books as from 1907 on the frontpiece of the books. A gift to Maggie Petrie from K. Brodie. These are called The Melrose Edition and are beautiful books with gold printed spines and decorative imprints on the front and back of the books. Although his novels were popular, he did not reveal that he wrote them until 1827. All his stories were published together in a 48-volume series called the Waverley Novels (1829-1833). They contained prefaces written by Scott with final revisions. The series was completed after his death in 1832.
