Cut fabric 7–8″ (18–20 cm) square so there’s room to finish. Needle & threads: Tapestry needle #24 for 14 ct. Use 2 strands for full crosses; 1 strand for backstitch/French knots. Before you start: Secure fabric edges (zig-zag or tape), find/mark the center, optional grid with a water-soluble pen. Neat crosses: Keep the top stitch slant the same throughout. Work with short lengths (12–16″ / 30–40 cm). Let the needle dangle to untwist. Try loop start for 2 strands; for 1 strand use an away/waste knot. Counting & charting: Print the chart at 100%, tick off stitches with a highlighter. Start from the center and build out. Tension: Hoop or Q-snap should be snug but not warping the fabric. Move the hoop so it doesn’t crush finished stitches. Light & care: Good lighting helps. Keep hands clean. Avoid long thread carries behind light areas.
