This beautiful stone was found deep in the Keweenaw Peninsula, on the shores of Lake Superior after many miles of hiking and rock hunting in Upper Michigan. This stone pictured was found using a T21 Unique-fire 365 nm UV flashlight, but is "illuminated" for these photos using a 365nm Convoy C8 brand UV flashlight. This rock is a "Syenite rich in fluorescent Sodalite" that was recently discovered in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Scientists believe they were brought down from Canada by the glaciers over 13,000 years ago. Sodalite is a rare rock-forming mineral found in igneous and metamorphic rocks. "Yooperstones" unique coloring & patterns make them desirable for use in jewelry, as a gemstone, an ornamental stone, in architectural material & art or as a one of a kind display specimen as they glow under UV lights!
