Replacement LEDs are cheap and easy to purchase. • Each miniature is approximately 1.25" (3cm) in diameter, smaller than the haven and stronghold symbols on the game board • 3D printed at a fine level of detail • Available with hand-applied paint effects (some color, dark wash and dry brushing) for enhanced realism • Miniature bases are color-coded to indicate troop types for mustering (havens) or stronghold locations Notes: • These models only cover the haven and stronghold locations. I was impressed by how thematic Fate of the Fellowship is, and the wonderful ways it allows the story to play out, whether successful or not. One of the only things I found annoying is that we were constantly looking for specific locations called out on the cards. With these models on the board it's so much easier to just glance at the board and see where Rivendell, the Shire, Helm's Deep, Mount Doom and many other locations are. Plus with their ability to light up, it really does add more excitement to the game. It was a fun process to learn about each location and create a representation for the game. Painted vs. Unpainted Models • The unpainted models still have some color. That’s because they are printed with multiple filament colors. They look much better than your average “unpainted” models and still look great for gameplay. • If you want more realism, the painted models add dark washes and dry brush effects to bring out the model detail. Plus a few extra splashes of color, like in the shire and the Rivendell waterfall. • The painting isn't finely detailed, which would take hours to accomplish and cost far too much. If you want to go to that level, I suggest purchasing the unpainted models and either painting them yourself or paying someone who does miniature painting. • Both painted and unpainted models have the ability to light up. 3D Model Appearance • Since products are hand-made to order, yours may look slightly different depending on shades of PLA used and other factors. • 3D Printed in PLA at an optimal quality, which is the quality that still retains the detail of the models (one set takes about 15 hours to print). However, looking closely at the models you'll be able to see the normal layer lines and slight imperfections that are common to FDM printers. They don't make the models look any worse, it's just how they are and gives them character. • See the included photos to understand model appearance. • I reserve the right to make minor improvements in models, painting, etc. over time :-) 3D Model Size and Fit • The average model size is about 3cm round (1.25") including the base, which takes up slightly less room than the haven and stronghold symbols on the board. • You can also nudge the models to the side of the symbols, out of the way of the traffic areas of the board if desired. See the “Placement” slide in my product photos. • I highly recommend purchasing a larger neoprene mat if you can find one as they can be significantly larger and less crowded during game play. • The models are not meant to be to scale. They are more like icons to represent their locations. Some are a single dwelling, others are entire cities or mountains. But they all look great and fit together well. Color Coded Bases • The models each have a color-coded base. For strongholds the color is always red. • For havens, the base color corresponds to to the “muster” color on the location. Since the models cover the muster color, the bases give you a quick way to tell which soldiers can be mustered there without moving the model. • For overthrown havens, 5 extra red bases have been included. For overthrown strongholds, 5 extra yellow bases have been included (the generic haven color). The Shire has a yellow base, since it is a haven but doesn’t support mustering. About the Lights • Keep them out of reach of young children and animals, as they can cause harm if ingested. • Enough LEDs are included to light all of the havens, strongholds and Mount Doom. These are inexpensive, disposable round LEDs that when you pull out the tab they turn on. The tab can be re-inserted to to them off. • A single LED can stay lit for 24 hours, although its brightness will diminish over time. Packs of additional lights can be purchased inexpensively online for only 10 cents each and can usually be found worldwide. • One other consideration with lighting is whether to turn the LED with its bulb up or down in the base. It’s up to you - placing the bulb up will light up the model more intensely. Placing it with the bulb down will make its base “glow” which is also a cool effect, plus it does still give the model some subtle lighting. You can try both ways to see which you prefer. • Lastly, the models look great without any interior lighting.
