Félix-Antoine Savard (August 31, 1896 – August 24, 1982Québec) was a Quebec priest and writer. In the first sentence of the introduction, the event that gave rise to L’AbatisL’Abatis: “This book alternated with memories and poems refers, for a large part, to my experiences as a missionary in Abitibi. He reminds us that the economic situation, in 1934, following the economic crisis, was difficult for unemployed workers and that the Church was in charge of orchestrating “the crusade of the return to the earth”. For his part, between 1936 and 1938, he recruited in Charlevoix and accompanied several settlers in Abitibi. Of course, the company was difficult for many of them: peasants accustomed to their mountains, islander of Isle-aux-Coudres, people of the sea, they did not find their bearings in this flat country. This is part of what Savard says in this book. Of course, the author, focused on the epic, tries to show us that every private company contributes to a more global project, that of the French-Canadian people who must ensure their survival in the land of America.
