He swears the same vow as the rest of his order, that the things crawling up out of the Hellswake do not get to set foot in a township while he can put steel between them, and he keeps the vow by walking. He carries a long sword in his lead hand and a second blade ready at his belt for the moment a fight goes close, and he reads the silence at the edge of a road the way other men read maps.
