Formed in London in 1976, The Damned were pioneers of British punk rock. Their debut, “New Rose,” is widely regarded as the first single released by a UK punk band, followed by Damned Damned Damned in 1977, the first full-length British punk album. Over time, the band expanded beyond punk into garage rock, psychedelia, new wave and gothic rock, becoming especially known for Dave Vanian’s theatrical vocals and dark visual style. By the time of this 1986 Hollywood Palladium concert, The Damned had entered their atmospheric gothic period, following the release of Phantasmagoria in 1985.
