Beautiful Antique French Oil on Canvas Painting of Red and White Currants,signed B.L HERCULE. (1846-1913). It depicts a romantic bunch of currants ,very finely painted. A rare example ,from this antique sculptor. Benoît Lucien Hercule is born in Toulon on 26 July 1846 and died in Paris on 6 November 1913 is a French sculptor and medallist. He exhibits at the Salon des artistes français from 1874 where he presents a study head, bust in mar5. These successes enabled him to obtain public orders: in 1882, a statue of Pierre Charron for the city hall of Paris and, in 1884, the busts of Restout and Houël for the facade of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen. Toulon, his hometown, will commission two busts representing Pierre Puget and Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc to decorate the facades of the Art Museum. Hercule has a certain local reputation thanks to the Water Drinker, a bronze bas-relief adorning the Alexander 1st garden, and for the marble bas-relief depicting Russian Sailors on the Cronstadt dock preserved in the Old Toulon museum. In 1885, he became a member of the Société des artistes français. Beautiful tones ,highly decorative in a nostalgic home decor. It is signed at the left inferior part B.L HERCULE. Sold with its original wood and stucco gilt patinated frame,which is in vintage condition ,with old repairs of stucco . In good general antique condition,some signs of age, two very small repairs on the canvas ,very little visible,,still beautiful.
