Good Deal on Great Food

Both of our large breed dogs love Merrick Healthy Grains. We order from Walmart because they have the best deal. Our dogs are very active and this food keeps them energized for all our adventures.

  • NOT THE SAME RECIPE!!!
    cricaAug 4, 2024

Not the same recipe at all. OLD BAG GLUCOSAMINE AND CHONDROITIN SULPFATE both were 1200mg/kg. Now reduced to 400mg/kg each on this "new look, same recipe". I've been buying this for years b/c it worked so well for my dog with discospondylites, now I'll need to find something else. The beef one is close, but she doesn't like the flavor. Disappointing.

  • Grain Free is a Hype

Grain free is a hype. Dogs need grains, vegetables, and chicken. Forget the "Grain Free Generation"

  • Bring Back the Old Recipe
    MyrtleSep 18, 2016

My dog is 4 years old and a finicky eater. When he went from puppy food to adult food it took a bit to find something he liked and he loved Merrick. My dog recently developed a "hotspot". Has never had one. The vet told me to check the ingredients on his food. I didn't even realize the ingredients had changed. I'm not sure if the new ingredients had anything to do with it, but I am going to have to find a new food with only healthy ingredients. I get prices go up on everything, but changing the formula should not have happened. Please go back to the original formula!

  • What happened to Merrick?
    rickyjonesJun 13, 2016

Hey Merrick, how about you reply to the other reviews with a real answer instead of the pre-approved garbage replies. We understand that prices go up. Of course they do, but why don't you just keep the original recipe and charge more? Instead you changed the recipe to a lower quality and shrunk the bag by 5 pounds and still charge more $ per pound. It makes no sense! Look at your reviews on Amazon. People hate the new formula!!!

  • Where is Garth?
    dbphillipsJun 4, 2016

I don't know, it just seems like the worst fears regarding the corporate dog food producers is being reinforced. Price increases are one thing, but changing the formula and no guaranteed analysis on the previous recipe for comparison do make one suspicious. For god's sake, you had a 4.7 rating. Why would you screw with success? Also, why no larger size to help mitigate cost increases? 25 pounds? Really? Look at the silhouette of the breed on the bag. How long do you think it takes to empty the bag?

  • Very Upset!
    Chris33May 30, 2016

I have no problem with price increases, the cost of everything is always rising. I do however, have a BIG problem with formula changes. My dog has done awesome on this food in past and now you throw a wrench in it. Way to jump on the ancient grains movement and ruin a perfectly good product. If you want to put out a new product, great, but leave your loyal customers food alone. Thanks a lot Purina merrick.

  • 'New' - same great cost for less food!
    JBoshApr 22, 2016

I have learned from previous experiences that even small changes in recipes will simply not work for some dogs. When I finally found Merrick, I looked forward to a long run of quality food + my dog seems to really love it. This was a shame of a change. A blend of "ancient grains" and now they want to charge the same price for 5lbs less of food. I'm upset every store both in my area and online seems to be totally sold out of the old product. Nice try but I won't be taken advantage of here. This isn't the only healthy brand out there.

  • Higher Cost, Less Food, Lower Quality Ingredients
    MD57MallardApr 18, 2016

Merrick was bought out by Purina in 2015. The Merrick Classic line was rebranded and "With Classic Grains" was added to the product title. After doing some research, I realize they now use less meat in this new product line, shrunk the bag by 5 pounds and charge more for a lesser product!!! I will not be feeding my dog this new line and will go to a competitor that I trust.
