Cayucos Beach Brecciated Jasper Cabochon – California This striking cabochon was cut from Cayucos Beach brecciated jasper from the California coast. The stone is composed of beautiful fragments of cherry and peach colored jasper naturally fractured and re-cemented with agate, creating the dramatic mosaic pattern that makes brecciated stones so fascinating. The contrasting network of dark matrix highlights the angular jasper fragments, giving the stone the appearance of broken stone reassembled by nature. Pieces of this material are increasingly difficult to obtain and are sought after by collectors and jewelry artists alike. The rough for this cabochon came from an old estate collection, and the stone was carefully hand-cut and polished in my home studio. I polish the front, back, and sides so the gem looks beautiful from every angle and is ready for jewelry work.
